The Giants of Jazz was an all-star jazz group formed in early 1970, featuring Art Blakey on drums, Dizzy Gillespie on trumpet, Al McKibbon on bass, Thelonious Monk on piano, Sonny Stitt on alto and tenor sax, and Kai Winding on trombone. The group recorded albums for Atlantic Records, Concord Records, and Emarcy Records. Their debut album, The Giants of Jazz, was released in 1972. The band toured internationally from 1971 to 1972, with notable concert stops in Prague and Copenhagen, both of which were filmed. In 1988, they released the live album Giants of Jazz in Berlin '71. The Prague and Copenhagen performances were later issued on DVD in the 2000s.
