Biography
The Falcons were an American R&B vocal group formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1955. The group initially consisted of Eddie Floyd, Bob Manardo, Arnett Robinson, Tom Shelter, and Willie Schofield. Following line-up changes in 1956, the group signed with Lu Pine Records and achieved significant success with the million-seller "You're So Fine" (1959), which charted at number 17. Joe Stubbs was the lead singer for hits like "Just for Your Love" (1959) and "The Teacher" (1960), while Wilson Pickett replaced him in 1960, marking a pivotal moment before his own solo career took off. The group continued with notable releases such as "I Found a Love" (1962), but disbanded in 1963 when the Fabulous Playboys took over the Falcons' name. In 2005, Carlis 'Sonny' Munro briefly reformed the group with Frank Garcia, Calvin Stephenson and Charnissa Stephenson. The Falcons' influence extended beyond their active years, with releases like Balls Balls (1992) and You're so Fine - 16 Collector Sound (2011). Willie Schofield, a key member of the group, passed away on 30 March 2021.
