Biography
The Embarrassment was an American rock band formed in 1979 in Wichita, Kansas. The group consisted of guitarist Bill Goffrier, lead singer and organist John Nichols, bassist Ron Klaus, and drummer Brent Giessmann. Their initial releases included the single "Patio Set / Sex Drive" (1980) and The Embarrassment EP (1981). The band was part of the vibrant music scene in Lawrence, Kansas, performing at venues like the Lawrence Opera House and Off the Wall Hall. In 1983, they released their EP, Death Travels West, before they stopped performing when two members moved to Boston. Giessmann joined the Del Fuegos, and Goffrier formed Big Dipper. The Embarrassment reunited several times, notably in 1985, 2006, and 2023. Their legacy includes being featured in Thomas Frank's book What's the Matter with Kansas? (2004) and a documentary titled We Were Famous, You Don't Remember: The Embarrassment (2022).
