Founded in 2015 by violinist Alix Boivert, The Curious Bards specialize in 18th-century folk music from Northern Europe, blending historical research with energetic performances. Trained at conservatories in Lyon, Paris, and Basel, the group explores Irish, Scottish, Swedish, and Norwegian traditions. They released Extradition (2017) and Indiscretion (2023) under Harmonia Mundi, both critically acclaimed. Their third album, Sublimation (2025), focuses on Scandinavian music. Supported by the Cité de la Voix, the Ambronay Festival, and the Caisse des Dépôts, the ensemble has played over 250 concerts, reinventing historical melodies with authenticity, creativity, and a touch of modern flair.
