Biography

The Creation, a British rock band formed in 1966, emerged from The Mark Four, a beat group based in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. Their breakthrough came with "Making Time", featuring Eddie Phillips playing his electric guitar with a violin bow, which reached number 49 on the UK chart in June 1966. The band's next significant release was "Painter Man" in October 1966, peaking at number 36 on the UK Singles Chart and reaching number 8 in Germany. In early 1967, Bob Garner replaced Tony Barber on bass and took over lead vocals, leading to the release of several successful singles in Germany, including "If I Stay Too Long" and "Tom Tom". The band's sound evolved into freakbeat psychedelic rock, culminating in the album We Are Paintermen, released in mid-1967 for the European market. Internal issues led to the departure of Eddie Phillips and Bob Garner by February 1968, effectively disbanding The Creation.
