The Contortionist, an American metal band from Indianapolis, Indiana, was formed in 2007. Initially known as At The Hands Of Machines, they released their first EP Sporadic Movements that year. After changing their name to The Contortionist, they released the EP Shapeshifter in 2008. Following a series of lineup changes, Jonathan Carpenter joined as vocalist and keyboardist, contributing to their debut album Exoplanet, which featured themes of space travel.
