Biography

The Contortionist, an American metal band from Indianapolis, Indiana, was formed in 2007. Initially known as At The Hands Of Machines, they released their first EP Sporadic Movements that year. After changing their name to The Contortionist, they released the EP Shapeshifter in 2008. Following a series of lineup changes, Jonathan Carpenter joined as vocalist and keyboardist, contributing to their debut album Exoplanet, which featured themes of space travel. Carpenter remained for the band's second album Intrinsic in 2012 before leaving in 2013. Mike Lessard then joined as vocalist. The Contortionist released their third album Language in 2014 and fourth album Clairvoyant in 2017, which featured a softer sound with prominent clean vocals.
