Australian indie-rock band The Cannanes were formed in 1984, led by Stephen O'Neil (vocals, guitar) and Frances Gibson (bass). Releases were the cassette single "Life" / "It's Hardly Worth It" (1985), cassette album The Cannanes Come Across With the Goods, and the 1986 EP Bored Angry & Jealous. They issued album The African Man's Tomato in 1987, followed by A Love Affair With Nature (1989), and toured the United States in 1991 for Caveat Emptor (1993). Later albums were Living the Dream (1998), Trouble Seemed So Far Away (2002), and Howling at All Hours (2013). Collaborations with Explosion Robinson, Steward, and others expanded their discography, and they continued touring into the 2010s.
