The Beets were an American indie rock band from Queens, New York, led by Uruguayan-born musician Juan Wauters. The initial lineup featured Wauters alongside bassist Jose Garcia and drummer Jacob Warstler. The group began its recording career with the self-released 2009 album Spit On the Face Of People Who Don't Want to Be Cool. In 2010, the band released a split EP with Cassie Ramone and signed to the Hardly Art label to issue their second studio album, Let the Poison Out. The Beets followed this with the 2011 album Stay Home and released the single âSilver Nickels and Golden Dimesâ in 2013. Known for their distinctive live presence, the group often featured hand-painted banners and light shows created by their official artist, Matthew Volz. Throughout their career, the band performed as opening acts for prominent artists including Pavement, Vivian Girls, and the Mountain Goats. Following several lineup changes, Wauters eventually transitioned to a solo career.
