Biography

The Beatnigs were an American hardcore industrial band from San Francisco, formed in 1986 by Michael Franti, Rono Tse, Kevin Carnes, Andre Flores, and Henry Flood. They released their self-titled debut album, The Beatnigs, in 1988, along with the single "Television" on Alternative Tentacles. The band was known for their energetic live performances featuring nudity and industrial noise. They toured extensively with artists such as Billy Bragg, Michelle Shocked, D.O.A., MDC, Fugazi, Living Colour, and EinstÃ¼rzende Neubauten. The Beatnigs disbanded in 1990. Post-breakup, Michael Franti and Rono Tse formed the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, while Kevin Carnes went on to form Broun Fellinis.
