Biography

The Aristocrats are an instrumental power trio who treat jazz not as a rulebook, but as a launchpad. Formed in 2011 after an impromptu live show in Anaheim, California, the group features Guthrie Govan (guitar), Bryan Beller (bass), and Marco Minnemann (drums), The Aristocrats blend their virtuosic musicianship with an irreverent sense of humor, and create a unique blend of jazz fusion, progressive rock, and unfiltered improvisation that continues to dazzle audiences. Their compositions shift shape in real time, leaping from swinging elasticity to metallic crunch, funk swagger, and cinematic detours—all without losing momentum or melodic clarity. The eclectic trio issued their self-titled debut album in late 2011 to great acclaim. The following year, they issued the live album Boing, We’ll Do it Live! (2012). The group continued releasing live and studio albums including Culture Clash (2013), Culture Clash Live (2015), Tres Caballeros (2015), Secret Show: Live in Osaka (2015), You Know What…? (2019), Freeze! Live in Europe (2021) The Aristocrats with Primuz Chamber Orchestra (2022) and Duck (2024). Serious, playful, and relentlessly inventive, The Aristocrats redefine what a modern jazz‑adjacent group can be: virtuosic without pretension, complex without stiffness, and always one left turn ahead of expectation.
