Biography

The Apples in Stereo, formed in 1992 in Denver, Colorado, were initiated by Robert Schneider, who met Jim McIntyre and Hilarie Sidney on a commuter bus, with the trio later adding Chris Parfitt. Schneider’s early work culminated in the 1993 EP Tidal Wave and the 1995 debut album Fun Trick Noisemaker, which established the band’s psychedelic pop sound. Subsequent releases included Tone Soul Evolution (1997), Her Wallpaper Reverie (1999), The Discovery of a World Inside the Moone (2000), the EP Look Away + 4 (2000), the compilation Sound Effects (2001), Velocity of Sound(2002), and New Magnetic Wonder (2007), alongside later archival releases such as Science Faire and #1 Hits Explosion. The group signed with SpinART and later Simian Records, and notable collaborations included contributions from Jeff Mangum and Bill Doss, as well as performances on The Colbert Report and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. The band’s single “Energy” gained national exposure through American Idol and a PepsiCo commercial in 2008. In 2012, the death of keyboardist Bill Doss marked a turning point, after which the group entered a hiatus.
