The Answering Machine was a British indie rock band from Manchester, England, formed in October 2005 at the University of Manchester by Martin Colclough and Pat Fogarty. Gemma Evans joined on bass shortly afterward. Their first gig took place at Retro Bar on March 1, 2006. The band released their debut single "Oklahoma" on October 16, 2006, through High Voltage Sounds, which sold out in two days. They followed up with the singles "Silent Hotels" (2007) and "Lightbulbs" (2007). Their first album, Another City, Another Sorry, was released on June 15, 2009, produced by Dave Eringa. The band performed at notable festivals including Glastonbury in 2007 and SXSW in 2008 and 2011, and toured extensively across the UK and US. They also had songs featured on the video game FIFA 10 and the BBC TV show Gavin & Stacey. The Answering Machine released a second album, Lifeline (2011), before disbanding on May 16, 2011.
