A post-hardcore band from Gympie, Queensland, Australia, The Amity Affliction was founded in 2003 by high-school students Ahren Stringer, singer, and Troy Brady, guitarist. The name was inspired by the death of a close friend in a car accident. Gradually, over the course of 2004, the band was enriched by the arrival of Joel Birch as singer, Garth Buchanan as bassist and Lachlan Faulkner as drummer. But the two musicians left the band in 2007 after recording an EP of the same name two years earlier. Changes followed, with the arrival of drummer Troels Thomasson, guitarist Chris Burt on guitar, keyboardist Trad Nathan and Ahren Stringer on bass. The High Hopes EP was recorded in this configuration, followed by the debut album Severed Ties in 2008, featuring drummer Ryan Burt. The album reached number 26 in the Australian charts. The drummer's brother, Chris Burt, leaves the band. Clint Ellis of The Getaway Plan takes his place. Youngbloods, the second album, takes the band to a new level, reaching number six in the Australian charts. Chasing Ghosts, two years later, put the band at the top of the charts, a position they would not relinquish again with Let the Ocean Take Me (2014), This Could Be Heartbreak (2016) and Misery (2018). Everyone Loves You... Once You Leave Them just interrupts the series, reaching number two in 2020. Three years later comes Not without My Ghosts, introduced by two collaborative singles: "I See Dead People" with Louie Knuxx and "Not without My Ghosts" with Phem. In 2024, The Amity Affliction recorded a new version of their fourth album, Let the Ocean Take Me (Redux), before the departure of Ahren Stringer, replaced by touring musician Jonathan Reeves. House of Cards, released in 2026, is recorded in this configuration.
