Harald Walter Bernhard Schubring, known professionally as Ted Herold, was born on September 9, 1942, in Berlin, Germany. He began his career as a singer in the late 1950s, initially gaining attention by performing US rock 'n' roll hits for his classmates. In 1958, he released his first single "Ich brauchâ keinen Ring / Lover Doll (Ohne Dich)" under the guidance of Bert Kaempfert at Polydor Records. His second single "So schön ist nur die allererste Liebe" was produced by Gerhard Mendelson in Vienna. Herold's breakthrough came with the release of "Moonlight", a ballad that reached Number 1 on the German charts and sold over 500,000 copies. Throughout the early 1960s, he released numerous singles and appeared in several music films, often accompanied by orchestras led by Johannes Fehring or Werner Scharfenberger. Herold's career was briefly interrupted by his military service from 1963 to 1964, during which he released three singles that did not achieve significant success. After his discharge, he married Karin Höhler and worked as a radio and television technician. In the late 1970s, Herold experienced a revival in his career, collaborating with Udo Lindenberg on the album Panische Nächte and releasing new titles under Teldec Records. He continued to perform live and release albums, including Jukebox, Jeans, Rock 'n' Roll in 2008 and Rock ânâ Roll geht immer in 2012. Herold passed away on November 20, 2021, in Dortmund, Germany.
