Biography

Taxiride, an Australian rock band, was formed in Melbourne in 1997 by singer-songwriters Tim Watson and Tim Wild. The group initially included Jason Singh and Dan Hall. Before forming Taxiride, the members had been playing in cover bands around Melbourne. Their breakthrough came when a taxi-driving friend helped promote their demo EP, leading to a contract with Warner Music Group. In 1998, they relocated to Los Angeles to work on their debut album Imaginate, which was released on October 18th, 1999 and reached Number 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The lead single "Get Set" peaked at number 8 on the ARIA Singles Chart and won the 1999 ARIA Award for "Breakthrough Artist - Single." Following Hall's departure, Taxiride recruited Sean McLeod and Andy McIvor and their second album Garage Mahal, released in 2002, produced three charting singles including "Creepin' Up Slowly," which peaked at number 6 in Australia. The band continued performing live until 2008, producing another two albums: Axiomatic (2005) and Electrophobia (2006), before disbanding. In 2015, the original members reformed and performed on the Australian festival circuit, in two different formations.
