Nicholas James Murphy, born 23â¯Juneâ¯1988 in Melbourne, Victoria, is an Australian electronic music singer, songwriter, producer, and multiâinstrumentalist also known as Chet Faker. He first attracted attention with his viral cover of Blackstreetâs "No Diggity" in 2011, which led to the release of his debut EP Thinking in Textures in Marchâ¯2012 and a signing to Downtown Records in the United States. The EP earned the Australian Independent Records Award for Best Independent Single/EP in Octoberâ¯2012, and Nick Murphyâs single "I'm Into You" entered the Tripleâ¯J Hottestâ¯100 of 2012 at numberâ¯24. He followed with the collaborative EP Lockjaw with Flume in Novemberâ¯2013, then his debut studio album Built on Glass in Aprilâ¯2014, which debuted at number one on the ARIA Charts and produced the Tripleâ¯J Hottestâ¯100 winner "Talk Is Cheap" that same year. Subsequent releases included the EP Work with Marcus Marr in Decemberâ¯2015, and under his name Nick Murphy, the EP Missing Link in 2017, and the studio album Run Fast Sleep Naked in Aprilâ¯2019. In Octoberâ¯2020 he revived the Chetâ¯Faker moniker for the single "Low" and the album Hotel Surrender, released in 2021. He signed with BMG Australia & Newâ¯Zealand and released in February 2026 the album A Love for Strangers. Nick Murphyâs work has earned multiple chart placements, certifications, and awards, including a Rollingâ¯Stone Australia Award nomination and Tripleâ¯J Hottestâ¯100 accolades.
