Biography
Tamam Shud, an Australian psychedelic rock band, formed in Newcastle, New South Wales, in 1964. The initial lineup included Eric Connell on bass guitar, Dannie Davidson on drums, Gary Johns on rhythm guitar, and Alex "Zac" Zytnik on lead guitar. They released their first single, "The Rip", in 1964 for Astor Records. After several name changes, the band adopted Tamam Shud in late 1967, inspired by a Persian phrase from The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám. Their debut album, Evolution, was released in 1969 and featured tracks used in Paul Witzig's surfing film of the same name. The band signed with Warner Brothers Records due to its popularity. In January 1970, Tamam Shud performed at Australia's first outdoor rock festival, the Pilgrimage for Pop. Their second album, Goolutionites and the Real People, was released in 1970. The band disbanded multiple times, eventually reforming in 2008 and releasing the album Eight Years of Moonlight in 2016.
