Biography

Tara Jane O'Neil, born on November 22, 1972, is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, audio recording engineer, and visual artist from Chicago, Illinois. She began her music career as the bassist and vocalist for the influential Louisville, Kentucky, post-rock group Rodan. After their breakup in 1994, she moved to New York and joined several bands, including Retsin, The Sonora Pine, and The Naysayer. O'Neil released her first solo album, Peregrine, in 2000 on Quarterstick Records, followed by In the Sun Lines (2001) and TJO TKO (2002). She released numerous other albums, including You Sound, Reflect (2004), In Circles (2006), A Ways Away (2009), Where Shine New Lights (2014), Tara Jane O'Neil (2017), and The Cool Cloud of Okayness (2024). Her recordings and live performances ranged from solo singing to noise improvisations. Her compositions were featured in films, theater, and dance performances. Additionally, she is a notable visual artist whose artwork appeared on various record covers.
