Biography

Susana Santos Silva, born on January 3, 1979, in Porto, Portugal, is a prominent trumpeter known for her contributions to contemporary jazz. She began her musical journey studying jazz trumpet at the Musikkolleg in Porto and later at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. In 2010, she completed her Jazz Performance diploma at the Rotterdam Conservatorium. Santos Silva's breakthrough came with her debut album Devil’s Dress (2011). She has since collaborated with notable artists such as Mats Gustafsson & NU Ensemble and Elsa Bergman, and performed with ensembles like the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos and Fire! Orchestra. Her discography includes albums like All the Rivers – Live at Panteão Nacional (2018) and collaborations such as Tomorrow (2021) with Torbjörn Zetterberg. Santos Silva has been recognized for her originality and articulate voice in European avant-jazz, contributing significantly to the genre's evolution.
