Surinder Kaur, born on November 25, 1929, in Lahore, British India, was a Punjabi Sikh singer. She began her career with a live performance on Lahore Radio in August 1943 and released her first duet, "Maavan 'te dheean ral baithian", the same year. After relocating to Delhi post-Partition, Kaur started her playback singing career in Hindi films, contributing songs like "Badnam Na Ho Jaye Mohabbat Ka Fasaana" for Shaheed (1948). Her focus shifted back to Punjabi folk music, and she recorded over 2000 songs, including classics like "Lathe Di Chadar" and "Shonkan Mele Di". Kaur's notable collaborations include duets with Asa Singh Mastana and Karnail Gill. She received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1984 and the Padma Shri in 2006 for her contributions to Punjabi music. Surinder Kaur passed away on June 14, 2006, at the age of 77.
