Superpunk, a German rock band from Hamburg, was formed in 1996. The group evolved partially from another band called Fünf Freunde and directly from the Bruno Ferrari Quintett. Superpunk's style blended Northern Soul, punk rock, and garage rock. Jan Müller, the bassist of Tocotronic, co-founded the band as its first bassist. Superpunk released their debut album A bisserl was geht immer in 1999. The band continued with subsequent albums, including Wasser Marsch! (2001), Einmal Superpunk, Bitte, L'age d'or (2004), and Why Not? (2008). Notable singles include "Neue Zähne für meinen Bruder und mich" and "Ich bin kein Ignorant, ich bin kein Idiot". In 2011, a tribute album titled Oh, dieser Sound! featured covers of Superpunk songs by various artists. The band disbanded in 2012 and held a final club tour and performed at the Bootboohook Festival in Hanover and Stadtsaal in Vienna.
