Biography

Sugarcult is an American punk-pop group formed in Santa Barbara, California in 1998, fronted by Tim Pagnotta on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. The band’s early line-up included Airin Older on bass, Marko DeSantis on lead guitar, and Ben Davis on drums, with Kenny Livingston replacing Davis in 2003. The group released demo collections Eleven (1999) and Wrap Me Up in Plastic (2000) before issuing their debut studio album Start Static on 21 August 2001 through Ultimatum; the album yielded the singles "Pretty Girl" and "Stuck in America", the latter winning the Los Angeles Regional Poll at the 2nd Annual Independent Music Awards in 2003. Sugarcult signed with Fearless Records and issued Palm Trees and Power Lines on 13 April 2004, featuring MTV-hit singles "Memory" and "She's the Blade"; the album peaked at number 46 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. The band followed with the documentary Back to the Disaster (2005) and the studio release Lights Out on 12 September 2006, which included the track "Do It Alone" that appeared on the television series One Tree Hill. After a hiatus in 2009, the group performed sporadically, including a 2011 anniversary show for Start Static and a 2017 benefit concert with 5 Seconds of Summer.
