Stuart Dempster, born July 7, 1936 in Berkeley, California, is a trombonist, didjeridu player, improviser, and composer. After studying at San Francisco State College, he began teaching at the California State College at Hayward and the San Francisco Conservatory from 1960 to 1966. Dempster released his album In The Great Abbey Of Clement VI in 1979. He co-founded the Deep Listening Band with Pauline Oliveros and Panaiotis, and was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1981. Dempster is credited with introducing the didjeridu to North America.
