Biography

Henning Schmiedt, born in 1965 in Schlema, Germany, is a German musician, pianist, composer, arranger, and producer. He began his musical journey at age seven with piano lessons and singing in church choirs. In 1985, Schmiedt started his professional career as a jazz musician with the band College. The following year, he performed with Angelika Weiz, Wolfgang Fiedler's Jazzrock-band Fusion, and the Latin-Jazz-Band Bossa-Nostra. From 1989 onwards, Schmiedt expanded into contemporary music, composing film and theatre scores. His collaborations include working with Mikis Theodorakis and Maria Farantouri on various tours and albums, notably "Theodorakis sings Theodorakis" (1991) and the "Poetica" tour (1996). He also collaborated extensively with Jocelyn B. Smith, including the album Blue Light & Nylons (1998), for which he received a Jazz-Award from the Bundesverband der Phonographischen Industrie. His solo albums include Bilder/Assoziationen zu Kurt Weill (2001) and Klavierraum (2008).
