Biography

Starcastle, a progressive rock band from the United States of America, was formed in 1969 at the University of Illinois. Initially known as St. James, the band underwent several lineup changes and name alterations before settling on Starcastle in 1974. Their debut album, Starcastle, released in February 1976 under Epic Records, marked their breakthrough moment. The following year, they released Fountains of Light, produced by Roy Thomas Baker, which received critical acclaim despite not meeting the band’s original vision. In 1977 and 1978, Starcastle released Citadel and Real to Reel, with the latter shifting towards a more pop-oriented sound. The band disbanded in 1987 after a series of lineup changes, hiatuses, and industry challenges. Notable posthumous releases include Song of Times (2007) and Alive In America: Live 1978 (2006/2007).
