Uppalapu Srinivas, born on February 28, 1969, in Palakollu, Andhra Pradesh, India, was an Indian mandolin player and composer known for his contributions to Carnatic classical music. At the age of five, Srinivas began playing the mandolin under the guidance of his father U. Satyanarayana. By seven, he was introduced to western music by guitarist Vasu Rao. His breakthrough came at age thirteen when he performed at the Berlin Jazz Festival, earning a standing ovation and an additional hour-long performance. Srinivas made his debut public Carnatic concert in 1978 during the Thyagaraja Aradhana festival. He released numerous albums, including Modern Mandolin Maestro (1991) and Trio Mandolin (1992). Srinivas collaborated with notable artists such as John McLaughlin, Michael Brook, and Zakir Hussain. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009. Srinivas passed away on September 19, 2014.
