Biography

Spontania is a Japanese music unit originally formed by Massattack and Tarantula, who met in New York in 1996 and began their career under the name Hi-Timez. They made their major debut in 2004 through Toshiba EMI. In 2007, after meeting Micro of Def Tech, they rebranded as Spontania and relaunched their career under Micro’s label, Primary Color Recordz, part of Universal Music’s Far Eastern Tribe Records. The group gained major success in 2008 with the hit single "Kimi no Subete ni feat. JUJU", which surpassed 3 million downloads and became one of the defining collaborations of that era in J-pop and hip-hop crossover. In 2010, singer Kaori officially joined the group, transforming Spontania into a trio and ushering in a new phase in their sound and image. With the inclusion of Kaori, Spontania shifted toward a more melodic and emotionally rich blend of pop and hip-hop. This updated lineup released the single "Sayonara…"(2008), showcasing their evolving style and emotional depth. The group remains recognized for their successful collaborations and ability to blend rap with soulful vocals in a uniquely Japanese context.
