Spongehead, an American noise rock band, was formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 1985 by brothers David Henderson and Doug Henderson along with drummer Mark Kirby. Their debut album, Potted Meat Spread, was released in 1988 on Shimmy Disc, marking their entry into the music scene. The band's fusion of jazz, blues, and funk elements garnered comparisons to bands like Pere Ubu and Barkmarket. In 1991, they released Legitimate Beef on Community 3, which featured lyrics influenced by a dadaic viewpoint on politics following collaborations with Eugene Chadbourne. Produced by Dave Sardy of Barkmarket, the album Curb Your Dogma in 1993 showcased a maturation in their sound. The band continued to release music including Brainwash (1994), the single "Dog Day/Frankenstein" (1995), and Infinite Baffle (1996). Spongehead disbanded in 1996.
