Biography

Splodgenessabounds, a punk rock band from Keston, Kent, United Kingdom, was formed in 1978. The group's frontman, Max Splodge (born Martin Everest), initially gained attention as the drummer for punk bands The Tarts and The Mistakes. Splodgenessabounds secured their first recording contract with Deram Records after finishing runner-up in the 1979 Battle of the Bands contest. Their debut release, "Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps Please", was a triple A-side vinyl single that included "Simon Templer" and "Michael Booth's Talking Bum". The song "Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps Please" reached number 7 on the UK singles chart in June 1980, but the band struggled to capitalize on this success due to a BBC strike. Their follow-up single, a cover of "Two Little Boys", peaked at number 26 in September 1980. Their self-titled debut album was released in January 1981 during a hiatus and failed to chart. Splodgenessabounds were known for their pranks and carnivalesque stage shows, which often led to police involvement. After Deram Records terminated their contract, the band continued with various line-ups under independent labels like Razor Records and Captain Oi! Records. Notable releases include In Search of the Seven Golden Gussets (1982), I Don't Know (2000), and The Artful Splodger (2001). Max Splodge also pursued an acting career and became a bingo caller, continuing to perform with various bands including Bad Manners.
