Biography

Special Duties is an English punk rock band from Colchester, Essex, formed in 1977 by Steve Green, Steve Norris, and Nigel Baker. Inspired by seeing The Adverts, they began playing despite lacking musical skills or instruments. In 1980, Bart Povah joined, leading to a recording contract with Charnel House Records. They signed to Rondelet Records, recruited drummer Stuart Bray, and released the EP Police State (1982), which reached number 23 on the UK Indie Chart. They released their debut album, '77 in '82 (1982). They gained attention with the controversial single "Bullshit Crass" (1982), leading to distribution issues and their disbandment in 1983. They reunited in 1995 and released albums including '77 in '97 (1997), 77 One More Time: Volume 1 (2014), and 7 Days a Week (2021).
