Southwest F.O.B., also known as "Freight On Board," was a 1960s psychedelic rock group from Dallas, Texas. The band was formed by guitarist Larry "Ovid" Stevens while they were students at W.W. Samuell High School. Southwest F.O.B.'s lineup included Dan Seals and John Colley, who later achieved significant success as the duo England Dan and John Ford Coley, along with Michael (Doc) Woolbright on bass. The band's early iterations included groups like The Playboys Five and Theze Few, which eventually morphed into Southwest F.O.B. Their breakthrough came in 1968 with their cover of "Smell Of Incense" by the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, which reached number 56 on the national charts and was released on Stax subsidiary label Hip Records. The single was followed by another release, "Nadine", in January 1969. The band's sole album, Smell Of Incense, followed shortly after and was reissued as a remastered, expanded CD by Sundazed Music. Despite their early success, Southwest F.O.B. disbanded in 1969. During their active years, the band opened for notable acts such as Led Zeppelin and Three Dog Night, showcasing their popularity in the late 1960s. Dan Seals passed away on March 25, 2009.
