Biography

Soungalo Coulibaly, born in 1955 in Mali, was a master drummer and percussionist from the Bambara tradition. Raised in Béléko, he began his musical journey at an early age, playing traditional instruments like the bara and sabani during village festivals and agricultural work in the fields. Coulibaly moved to Fana and later to Côte d'Ivoire, where he taught himself to play the djembé, performing with various djembefolas. By the mid-1970s, he had established a reputation in Bouaké for his remarkable musicality and versatility. His career took off in Europe, where he regularly presented concerts with his group.
