Soul Brothers Six, an American rhythm and blues group originating from Rochester, Newâ¯York, was formed in the midâ1960s by the Armstrong brothers-Sam, Charles, Moses, Harry, and Gene-who initially performed as the Soul Brothers Five before adding vocalist Johnâ¯Ellison. Their early career featured two singles, "Stop Hurting Me" and "I Don't Want to Cry", released in 1965, followed by the lineup change that introduced Vonnâ¯Elleâ¯Benjamin and Lesterâ¯Peleman. The group signed with Atlantic Records after a recommendation from Jerryâ¯Wexler, and in 1967 released "Some Kind Of Wonderful", which peaked at number 91 on the Billboard Hotâ¯100. Subsequent releases, including "I'll Be Loving You", found modest success on the Northern soul scene in the United Kingdom during the 1970s. After a series of personnel changes and limited chart impact, the group disbanded in the midâ1970s. Johnâ¯Ellison later pursued a solo career, issuing Welcome Back in 1993 and Missing You in 2000.
