Biography

Soul Brothers Six, an American rhythm and blues group originating from Rochester, New York, was formed in the mid‑1960s by the Armstrong brothers-Sam, Charles, Moses, Harry, and Gene-who initially performed as the Soul Brothers Five before adding vocalist John Ellison. Their early career featured two singles, "Stop Hurting Me" and "I Don't Want to Cry", released in 1965, followed by the lineup change that introduced Vonn Elle Benjamin and Lester Peleman. The group signed with Atlantic Records after a recommendation from Jerry Wexler, and in 1967 released "Some Kind Of Wonderful", which peaked at number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100. Subsequent releases, including "I'll Be Loving You", found modest success on the Northern soul scene in the United Kingdom during the 1970s. After a series of personnel changes and limited chart impact, the group disbanded in the mid‑1970s. John Ellison later pursued a solo career, issuing Welcome Back in 1993 and Missing You in 2000.
