Sotho Sounds, a band from Malealea in the Mafeteng district of Lesotho, formed when local herders began crafting instruments from discarded materials to create music. Their unique sound, blending funk with influences from gospel, jive, hip hop, reggae, and traditional stories, gained international attention. In 2003, they embarked on their first major tour, performing at the WOMAD festival in both Britain and Australia. The group's lineup included Josepha Kojoane Chaka, Khothatso Ranoosi, Paseka Mohale, Risenga Makondo, Tankiso Pita, and Tseliso Rantho. In 2012, Sotho Sounds released their album Junk Funk, which was later reissued with an additional track as Bush Technology. Their innovative approach to music and performance secured them notable appearances at the Bush Fire Festival in Swaziland in 2010.
