Sipho Mchunu is a South African guitarist, percussionist, and singer born in 1951 in Kranskop, South Africa. His musical career began after a meeting with Johnny Clegg in Johannesburg in 1969, which led to the formation of the duo Juluka. The group blended Western music with traditional Zulu styles, reflecting the friendship between the white and black musicians during Apartheid. His compositions contributed to the global recognition of Zulu music. In 1979, the duo released the album Universal Men under the name Juluka, and continued to perform together until his retirement from touring in 1985.
