Biography

K2 was founded in Bavaria in the mid-1990s. The project emerged from the German Eurodance and dance-pop scene. It was founded by the producer Klaus Munzert. K2 is conceived as a studio project. The line-up consists of the singer Nina Poethen and the rapper Martin Pelz. Dancers, including Daniel Aminati, also appear in live performances and music videos. From 1994, K2 released its first singles in the Eurodance genre with folk and pop elements. The style combines electronic beats with humorous and deliberately exaggerated motifs. The single "Der Berg ruft" was released in 1994. The song becomes the project's biggest success. It reached number 3 in the German single charts as well as placements in Austria and Switzerland. In Germany, the single receives a gold award for high sales figures. The album of the same name, Der Berg ruft, follows in the same period. Further singles such as "Die Nachtigall singt", "Großer Bär" and "Lederhosn" are released in 1994 and 1995, but these releases do not achieve chart positions comparable to those of the debut single. The project remains strongly focused on this one big hit. Later singles such as "Everybody" (1996) and "High in the Mountain is the Paradise" (1997) do not build on the early success.
