Biography

Real name Alexandra Lilah Denton, born in London on June 17, 1988, Shura is a British singer, songwriter and producer renowned for her fusion of synthpop, electro pop and alternative pop. Raised in Manchester by an English father, a documentary filmmaker, and a Russian mother, an actress, Shura began playing guitar at the age of 13 and recording her own music at 16. She made a name for herself in 2014 with the single "Touch", co-produced with Joel Pott of the band Athlete. The video, which she co-directed, features couples of all orientations kissing, and went viral. The track led to her signing to Polydor and the release of her debut album, Nothing's Real (2016), hailed for its mix of nostalgic '80s pop, R&B and sophisticated, introspective alternative pop. In 2019, she released Forevher, a warmer, more romantic album, marking an evolution towards soul and folk sounds, while asserting her queer identity more explicitly. Her third album, I Got Too Sad For My Friends (2025), is released on the Play It Again Sam label. Produced with Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode), it includes collaborations with Cassandra Jenkins, Becca Mancari and Helado Negro.
