Shootin' Goon, a Welsh ska punk band from Cardiff, formed in 1998. The group initially featured St. John of Caerphilly on vocals but saw James take over vocal duties after the completion of their debut album Splottside Rocksteady (2000). Released under Moon Ska Europe, this album was inspired by the Splott area of Cardiff. In 2003, Shootin' Goon signed to Good Clean Fun Records, lead singer Matt's own label, and released the EP Left for Dead. The EP garnered attention when skateboarder Bam Margera reviewed it for Kerrang!, leading to a memorable quote that was later used on band merchandise. Following a self-organized tour in 2004, Shootin' Goon disbanded. They reformed briefly in December 2006 for a one-off show supporting Adequate Seven.
