Biography

Shelly West, born Shelly West on May 23, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio, is an American country singer. She began her career in the early 1980s, releasing several singles, including "A Texas State of Mind" and "Three Blind Hearts". Her breakthrough came with the album Red Hot in 1983, which included notable tracks like "Suite Sixteen" and "Another Motel Memory". West is best known for her duet work with David Frizzell, particularly their Number 1 hit "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma". She also achieved solo success with the single "José Cuervo", which reached Number 1 in 1983. Following Dottie West's death on September 4, 1991, Shelly West retired to focus on her family but has since returned to performing occasionally. In June 2005, CMT honored West and Frizzell as number six on its 100 Greatest Duets Special.
