Biography

With 33 UK Top 40 hit singles, Shakin' Stevens has had a brilliant career that's always been rooted in the golden days of rock'n'roll. From Penarth in South Wales, "Shaky" launched his career in 1968 fronting the band Shakin' Stevens & the Sunsets, reviving the 1950s style of Elvis Presley and other rockers. They got a big break supporting the Rolling Stones in 1969, which helped land a recording contract with Parlophone Records and a debut album Legend produced by Dave Edmunds. They built a strong following but in 1977 Shaky took time out to play Elvis in a high profile London musical which propelled him to solo stardom. In 1981 he had his first Number 1 with This Ole House, following it with further retro-style hits Green Door, Oh Julie, Merry Christmas Everyone, You Drive Me Crazy and Teardrops. His career faded through the 1990s but a Greatest Hits collection in 2005 restored him to the UK charts and he released a new studio album Now Listen in 2007. Regular seasonal reissues and radio play for Merry Christmas Everyone keep him in the public eye.
