Biography
Graham Fenton (born Graham Rankine in Ealing, May 28, 1947 or 1949) is a British rockabilly and rock 'n' roll singer, best known for his contribution to the revival band Matchbox. An early fan of 1950s pioneer music, he became involved in the British rockabilly revival movement in the late 1960s. In the 1970s, he founded or joined several live bands, including The Houseshakers, The Hellraisers, F.U.2. and Mystery Train. From 1977 onwards, it was mainly as lead singer of Matchbox that he established his energetic style, influenced by Elvis Presley and Gene Vincent, lending his name to the group, which became Graham Fenton's Matchbox in 1991, for his eighth and last studio album, I'm Coming Home. Fenton's warm, powerful voice and strong stage presence made him a key figure in the British rock 'n' roll revival. After the golden age of Matchbox, he pursued an active career, alternating tours, solo recordings, side projects and appearances at rockabilly festivals. In 2009, he formed Graham Fenton & the Western All Stars for the album Raging Heart. Other albums followed, including Fastest Cadillac in Town with Jugnle Tigers (2015), the Gene Vincent tribute A Rockabilly Legend (2016) and Graham Fenton & Friends (2022), before his death on August 10, 2025.
