Biography
Shahriyar Jamshidi, born on July 17, 1971, in Kermanshah, Iran, is a Kurdish-Canadian kamancheh player and composer. He began his musical journey at 17 under Mahmoud Merati and continued studies with notable teachers including Ahmad Pejman and Houshang Kamkar. He established the Dilan Ensemble in 2003 and co-founded Kamancello. His debut album, Alvanati, was released in 2004, followed by albums like Call of the Mountains (2008) and The Lullaby of a Nomad (2018). Jamshidi notably collaborated with Richard Robeson on Meet Me in Tangier (2016) and performed at International Society for Music Education World Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2018. He also received awards and residency such as the Ontario Arts Council Music Recording Projects grant for My Sunset-Land ROJAVA (2020) and Arts Abroad by Canada Council in 2024.
