Sfinx, a Romanian rock band formed in Bucharest in 1962, was initiated by singer and guitarist Octav Zemlicka. The initial lineup included bassist Corneliu "Bibi" Ionescu, who remained with the band until its disbandment. Sfinx gained early radio exposure in 1966 with "Ãmi place muzica" and "Sfinx". In 1973, after drummer Marian Toroimac left, Dan Andrei Aldea and Ionescu, along with flautist Doru Donciu, began a series of musical experiments. The band's first EP, Coborîse primÄvara/Ziua ta/Fiii soarelui/Peste vîrfuri, was released in 1974. Their debut LP, Lume albÄ, followed in 1975 and achieved significant success. In 1979, the concept album Zalmoxe was released after a three-year delay due to political censorship. The band's final album, Sfinx, was released in 1984. Sfinx disbanded in 1994.
