Sex Beatles were a Brazilian rock band formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1990, with Cris Braun on vocals, Alvin L and Ivan Mariz on guitars, Vicente Tardin on bass, and Marcelo Martins on drums; in the groupâs earliest phase, Dado Villa-Lobos also played with them before Ivan Mariz took over the second guitar role for the bandâs main run. After building early attention on the Rio live circuit, Sex Beatles recorded for Villa-Lobosâ Rock It! label, distributed by EMI, and released their debut album, AutomobÃlia, in 1994. Produced by Villa-Lobos, the record drew strong critical attention and is associated with songs such as âMás Companhiasâ and âValentino.â After roughly a year and a half of touring, the band returned with Mondo Passionale in 1995, again produced by Villa-Lobos and co-produced by Carlos Savalla for Rock It! in association with Virgin Records. The second album received a cooler response, and the group ended its original run in 1995. Their story later resurfaced through Marcelo Martinsâ documentary MemorabÃlia, screened in 2011, and again in 2022, when the classic lineup reunited after 27 years to record the two-song release âOui Je Regrette Toutâ and âDance Comigo,â issued alongside the digital return of their first two albums. On April 5, 2026, the bandâs history took on a more elegiac note with the death of guitarist and principal songwriter Alvin L, one of the key figures in its catalog and identity.
