Biography
French black metal band Seth was formed in Bordeaux in 1995 around guitarist/keyboardist Heimoth, vocalist Viscount Vampyr Arkames, bassist Faucon Noir and drummer Yannick "Alsvid" Herrera. After a first demo released the following year under the title Apocalyptic Desires by independent label Drakkar Productions, the still heavily-influenced band gained in originality with albums released by specialist label Season of Mist, namely Les Blessures de l'Ãme in 1998, The Excellence in 2000 and Divine-X in 2002, after taking part in a tribute to the band Mayhem on the compilation A Tribute to Mayhem: Originators of the Northern Darkness (2001). The successive departures of Faucon Noir in 2000 and V. V. Arkames in 2001 gave way to the arrivals of Helldryk (bass), Cyriex (guitar) and Patrick "Nacht" Vernhes (vocals) Vernhes (vocals), replaced by Black Messiah for the following album Era-Decay (2004), released on the Avantgarde Music label. The first French band to be programmed at the Inferno festival in Oslo (Norway), in March 2005, Seth broke up the same year. Returning in 2011 for a concert in Germany, the band recorded their fifth studio album The Howling Spirit (2013), before disappearing again for several years. In 2021, after the release of their first live album Les Blessures de l'Ãme : XX Ans de Blasphème (2019), the band recorded the studio album La Morsure du Christ with new singer Saint Vincent, guitarist Drakhian, bassist EsX VNR, keyboardist Pierre Le Pape and original members Heimoth and Alsvid. La France des Maudits followed in 2024, reaching 46th position in the French album sales chart.
