Set Fire to Flames was a Canadian instrumental music ensemble formed in Montreal, Quebec, in 1999. The group consisted of 13 musicians and was often considered a side project of Godspeed You! Black Emperor has several members overlapping between the two bands. Initiated by David Bryant, Set Fire to Flames released their debut album Sings Reign Rebuilder in 2001, through Alien8 Recordings and FatCat Records. Their second album, Telegraphs in Negative / Mouths Trapped in Static, followed in 2003, recorded in a barn in rural Ontario, incorporating ambient noises into the music. Both albums featured minimalist compositions with ambient noise and non-musical sound effects. In 2016, a previously unreleased track, "Barn Levitate", was issued on the compilation Eleven Into Fifteen.
