Biography

Sebastian Weigle is a German conductor and horn player born in 1961 in East Berlin. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin where he focused on horn, piano, and conducting. He founded Kammerchor Berlin in 1987. Weigle served as the principal horn player for Staatskapelle Berlin for 15 years. He was appointed as the chief conductor of Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg in 1993. He served as the music director of Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona between 2004 and 2009. Weigle led new production of opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2007) at Bayreuth Festival. He served as the general music director of Oper Frankfurt between 2008 and 2023. His career included conducting productions such as Daphne and Die tote Stadt. Weigle conducted two complete cycles of work Der Ring des Nibelungen (2012). He was appointed as the principal conductor of Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in 2019.
