Satin Whale was a progressive rock band formed in January 1971 in the Cologne-Bonn area. The founding members were Thomas Brück, Horst Schättgen, and Gerald Dellmann. After expanding to a quartet with guitarist Dieter Roesberg in 1972, they released their debut album Desert Places (1974). The band won the SWF-3 competition "Rocksound 74". Between 1974 and 1981, they released seven albums, including the double-live album Whalecome (1977). Wolfgang Hieronymi replaced Schättgen on drums in 1974. Roesberg performed as a guest on two songs for their final album Don't Stop the Show (1981) and rejoined the band for their last tour.
