Biography

Sandbox was a Canadian alternative rock band from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Formed in 1992 by Mike Smith, the ensemble originally performed under the name Sandbox Legacy and consisted of vocalist Paul Murray, guitarists Smith and Jason Archibald, bassist Scott MacFarlane and drummer Troy Shanks. The group released its debut recording, the EP Maskman, in 1993. Their recording history featured the studio album Bionic (1995), which included the singles “Curious” and “Collide”. The track “Curious” reached number 34 on the RPM Singles chart and number 8 on the alternative chart. In 1997, the band issued the concept album A Murder in the Glee Club, which was produced by Don Fleming. The record featured the single “Carry”, which reached number 38 on the RPM chart in 1998. The ensemble disbanded in 1998, after which Smith achieved recognition as an actor on the television program Trailer Park Boys.
