Classical and pop crossover singer–songwriter Sanah Moidutty was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India on July 1, 1991. She became interested in singing at the age of 5 and was trained in Carnatic classical music (six years) and Hindustani classical music (seven years) as well as Western vocals. Her performing career began at the age of seven when she sang with several children’s troupes, chalking up over 500 performances by the time she was 18 years old. While studying computer engineering at the St. Francis Institute of Technology, she was discovered in 2011 at a talent showcase and began performing as a playback singer for Hindi cinema (a.k.a. Bollywood). Her first Bollywood recording was the theme to 2011’s Always Kabhi Kabhi. She earned more attention in 2012 when she began releasing music on her social media channel, which led to more work as a playback singer, performing songs in films such as Attacks of 26/11 (2013), Mohenjo Daro (2016), Meri Pyaari Bindu (2017), Market Raja MBBS (2019), and more. She also released a series of independent singles outside of the film industry including her renditions of songs by British pop star Ed Sheeran and legendary Bollywood composer A R Rahman. In 2022, Sanah Moidutty continued her work in Bollywood, performing “Ooohicha Ledhu Kadhe” (from Highway) and “Sol” (from Ponnyiyin Selvan: 1).
